One of the most common stories that hustlers tell their clients, family, and freinds is that they do sex work because 'they had to' -- the lack of choice or other alternatives for money and work. Let's look at the behavioral timelines of three husters to see that becoming a huster can be the goal of some men -- it is what they enjoy.

Of partiular note is his desire to have it known he makes money being naked; this is the first line at the top of the second page, and important position on any resume.
You can get 'details' upon request; directors and teachers understand the implications and possibilities this engenders. And note that he began naked for pay in Scotland.

2011 - Scotland - Naked as performer
While working on a MLitt in Glasgow, Will told me he performed naked and began modeling. His resume states he studied with Ramona Fotiade, though it is unclear why she doesn't list him as one of her successful students defending for a MLitt.

Will had some problem with one gay singing group he joined - (More) Les Barbafellas, a French-language gay men’s choral and dance troupe formed to tour Canada in preparation for the 2018 Unison Choir Festival, May-June, 2018, Montreal, QC; Ottawa, ON; and Calgary, AB. Director: Yvan Sabourin
Will told me he would not sing with them again -- even though he was paid food and travel costs per diem, along with and extra $150/day, which was even more than he made per erotic massage session (at that time he charged $80). I got the impression the director and he had some trouble -- he had shown me a picture of them walking together with another man, smiling. But he had no further contact after the trip and had nothing good to say about Calgary.
Transactional Sexuality
Sex work is fundamentally using your intimate and sexual value in exchange for money or other services, be they legal, training, roles in thteatre, housing, access to educational opportunites, even just plain dinner and a show.
Singing lessons With Jonathan Patterson
Will probably knows his voice teacher through the Lyric Theatre, where
Jonathan provides choreography for the award-winning Lyric Theatre Singers,
They may have met at auditions with Quebec Drama Federation or simply through private referral. Each time Will had a lesson, he showered and was handsomely groomed before he travelled to the suburb where Mr. Patterson lived. His lessons were every two weeks and he said the cost for his lessons was only $50, a modest sum for such a well known teacher and director. When asked why he had lessons at his teachers home instead of the studios in Montreal or McGill, Will deflected the topic and said he enjoyed going to Jonathan's place.

Being "Out_there"
Seven Wonders Theatre
One of the small performing groups in which Will found work and service was Seven Wonders Theatre. He liked to tell me he tried to be 'out there' on stage -- always a hidden joke about being 'out' as gay or a sex worker while in the public eye.
Old Joy; discussing Kelly Reichart
Will often talked about Kelly Reichart in his lectures (I attended a few of them at his invitation) and has written a number of times about an Oregon director, Kelly Reichart who has won many awards and also teaches at Bard.
Will drew up a list of movies for me watch -- and 'Old Joy' was the first one. He writes about Reichart and discusses her whenever he can.
I realized his understanding of 'Old Joy' was hobbled by his (and probably the director's) misunderstanding of the subtlty and complexity of self-hatred for homosexual desires. But then, unlike psychologists, who seek truth in lived experience and real language, cinema is by its essential nature lies and stories portrayed through celluloid and fiction.
Understanding the creation and selling of a made-up image is central to the education and personal story of Will Fech -- who would be surprised that he can hustle extremely well.
